Pretty much any woman today will confirm that we could use some more body diversity in mainstream media. Thankfully, Sports Illustrated has delivered, and there are three stunning curve models who are featured in the 2018 Swimsuit Issue. Australian bombshell Kate Wasley is one these beautiful women, and we caught up with her to get the inside scoop on what it was like to be photographed by Sports Illustrated for the first time.
Growing up, Kate didn’t have many curve models to look up to. “That did really affect me," she told POPSUGAR. "I was always the biggest friend, and not seeing myself represented in the media had an effect, because if your body type’s not represented, it’s not celebrated." We couldn’t agree more.

She was so caught up in trying to change her body that Kate ended up suffering from an eating disorder. "I was about 18 when I started yo-yo dieting," she shared. "From there, I spiraled downward and lost 30 kilograms [66 pounds] in a short amount of time. I was eating about 800 calories a day."
"I was so obsessed and needed to be in constant calorie deficit, needed to constantly exercise and eat only protein and green vegetables," she continued. "I would not touch any form of carbohydrates, not even potatoes."

Kate said she woke up one day and just realized that she couldn’t live her life like this anymore. She was sick of missing events and not going out to eat with her friends. "I went to a couple of doctors who helped me a lot, and I’m living my best life now," she said. "I’m not really worried what other people think of me."
We asked Kate what advice she would give to young women who are struggling with eating disorders themselves. "There is a way out," she encouraged. "It’s difficult to say because everyone’s got a different experience, but I can tell you that you’re more than your appearance, and the people that matter most in your life won’t care what you look like and will love you for you."
We’re so glad to see Kate healthy and happy, because her photos in the 2018 SI Swimsuit Issue are absolutely stunning. She was born to model! And we’re sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the near future.
